
Ormond was born in Epsom, Surrey, the daughter of Josephine, a laboratory technician, and John Ormond, a stockbroker. She is the fifth of five children to her parents. At first, she attended Guildford High School and then Cranleigh School. There, her early lead performances in Guys and Dolls and My Fair Lady were noticed. After one year of arts college, she transferred to Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. She graduated in the year 1988. Ormond first made an appearance on British television in the 1989 series Traffik The story revolves around the illicit heroin trade from the far East to the streets of Europe. Ormond played the heroin addicted daughter of the main character, a Home Office minister who was involved in fighting heroin importation. It was the first time Ormond had a role and received rave reviews.
